With a BA from Harvard College and a PhD from George Washington University, I offer psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, couple psychotherapy and supervisory consultations, both in my private office and by telephone, FaceTime, and Skype.  I am a Board Certified psychoanalyst and clinical psychologist in private practice in Virginia Beach, VA.

My home office is located in a peaceful, natural setting, and I am licensed in VA. DC, MD, and FL.  I also can speak with employees of the federal government anywhere in the United States and with people living internationally.  I have treated hundreds of individuals and couples in my private practice.

Most important is knowing how to tailor the therapy to fit the person who comes to me.  As a member of the Analytic Process Scales research group, I have been lucky to be able to study many audiotapes of well-known clinicians, and I know how important a good therapeutic relationship is–it’s the biggest factor for a successful outcome.  I am dedicated to learning more about how to help people understand themselves, build loving relationships, appreciate their attachment to others, understand their dreams and develop their creativity.

For ten years, I chaired a psychotherapy training program at the Washington School of Psychiatry.  For more than 25 years, I have supervised clinicians at the Contemporary Freudian Society, Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, the Washington School of Psychiatry, the Psy.D. program at George Washington University and in my private practice.

I am a Training and Supervising Analyst at both the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis and the Contemporary Freudian Society.  I enjoy teach courses at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis and the China American Psychoanalytic Alliance.  I also have taught in training programs at the Contemporary Freudian Society, the Washington School of Psychiatry and the Adult Psychotherapy Program at the Baltimore-Washington Center for Psychoanalysis.

Since I enjoy writing, I have 15 publications in peer-reviewed journals or books on hope, femininity, therapeutic process, enactment and the psychodynamic aspects of cognitive behavioral therapy.   I also am glad to have opportunities to present my work, and I have made more than 30 presentations on love, attachment, sexual abuse, dreaming, creativity and the parallel process in supervision.

I have served two terms as President of the Washington Professionals for the Study of Psychoanalysis, a local group of Section IV, Division 39, American Psychological Association, and now, I am the Representative to Section IV and on the Board of Section I, Division 39, American Psychological Association.   I also serve as a Board Member of the Psychoanalytic Research Consortium (PRC).
