Standard hypnosis works well with weight control, stopping smoking, pain management and phobias of all kinds, and you can learn how to use it for these purposes.   It is not necessary to believe that hypnosis works in order to begin.

Ericksonian hypnotherapy is a good choice for less well-defined problems that are part of relationships and focuses on using and developing the strengths and coping mechanisms you have, and have used often, that are woven into your character.  This approach uses a permissive rather than the standard authoritative induction as we work to create the trance state together.  Your imagination will go where the wise part of your unconscious decides will be the right place to start.  This approach can be tailored for each individual, using your strengths and skills to create powerful effects for healing and solving problems.

Age Regression is another form of hypnotherapy and it builds on imagery combined with instructions for regression.  This approach to hypnosis relies on your imagination and we create the journey together.  The themes that emerge from this work can have a powerful therapeutic effect in your present life.  We can go back into your past experiences in this lifetime and we also can discuss past lifetimes, if you wish.  Whether past lifetimes are possible is to be decided by each person, and what is discussed under hypnosis cannot be assumed to be literally true without outside corroboration.  Nonetheless, these discussions can have very important themes that are relevant for your present lifetime.  We also can go forward into your future–age progression–in our imaginations and even into outer space or the space/time before and after death.  All of these journeys can be liberating and can have powerful themes that heal wounds of the psyche.  When we travel in time, your unconscious will have a strong sense of where we need to go, once we establish a trance together.  You will discover ideas and themes that you never thought of before.   You also will discover that what you think and believe in your conscious mind is quite different from the ideas and images in your unconscious mind.

HYPNOSIS

Hypnosis is a form of focused attention that makes it possible to access the wise and helpful part of your unconscious mind.  This focused attention also can be combined with a form of dissociation that helps one part of your mind recede and another part come to the fore in a sharper focus.

Hypnosis is a way we can create trance states together.  It can happen when you wish to participate in hypnosis.  All hypnosis is self-hypnosis and a way to learn about your mind and your inner life from a new perspective.  Your unconscious can help you solve problems and have greater understanding as you become more comfortable with your imagination and what your mind can do.

The kind of trance we create together as we begin our work will depend on all the factors that have created the way we already use of imaginative capacities.  The ability to enter trance develops with practice and involves getting comfortable and learning how to do it.

No one can program a hypnotic response.  Your conscious intentions are very different from what is in your unconscious mind.  An attitude of discovery as we work together can be useful, and in the end, your unconscious will know what is best for you.  Whatever turns up will be the right thing for you for that time and place.
